On vision, karma, and the quiet clarity of a cup of tea — by Asha Tea Company
There is an old story I return to more often than almost any other.
A teacher gathers his students in a field. On a distant branch sits a bird. The teacher asks each student a simple question: “What do you see?”
One student sees a tree. Another notices the branches, leaves, and sky. When his turn comes, one boy gives a different answer. “I see the eye of the bird,” he says. Nothing else matters to him. Not the tree, the branch, or even the bird’s body. His attention rests entirely on the eye.
That boy is Arjuna, a celebrated figure from the Mahabharata. His story has stayed with me through the difficult seasons of building something from nothing.
Over time, I have come to believe that we often look at the world in two ways. We either focus on what we want to achieve or become consumed by what stands in our way.
Some people look ahead and see their goal. Like Arjuna, they keep their attention on what matters most. The distractions around them do not easily pull them away.
Others see the same field but notice every possible difficulty. A branch might block the shot. The wind might change direction. A hundred reasons might convince them that today is not the right day.
Yet the circumstances remain the same. Only the perspective changes.
Same field. Same bird. Two entirely different lives waiting on the other side of that glance.
I understand both ways of seeing because I have experienced them myself.
There were years when obstacles occupied my attention. A licence had not come through. A supplier failed to respond. Doors closed when I needed them to open most.
Then came other mornings. I would hold a warm cup between my palms, and the fog seemed to lift for a moment. Beyond the difficulties, I could see the small, stubborn hope that had inspired me to begin.
Asha means hope. I did not choose that word lightly. Through every challenge, I have had to rediscover its meaning, one clear-eyed morning at a time.
That hope became part of the foundation of Asha Tea Company. I wanted to build a wellness tea brand in India offering functional botanical herbal blends rooted in Ayurvedic tradition.
The journey also taught me something important about positive thinking. It is not about pretending that difficulties do not exist. Nor does it mean convincing ourselves that everything will always work out.
The Bhagavad Gita offers a deeper perspective. It teaches the importance of doing our work sincerely without becoming attached to the outcome.
To me, that is karma in practice. We focus on the work before us, act with a clear heart, and release our grip on what we cannot control.
The obstacles do not magically disappear when we change our perspective. However, they no longer need to dictate every decision we make.
We can acknowledge a difficulty without allowing it to define our entire journey.
Perhaps this is why tea has always meant more to me than the drink itself.
Every blend at Asha Tea Company reflects a simple idea: pause, pay attention, and choose what deserves your energy. A cup of tea creates a small opportunity to step away from the noise of everyday life.
Our CALM & Relax Herbal Blend can become part of a gentle evening ritual. It is a moment to slow down, unwind, and make space for relaxation after a demanding day.
For mornings that call for warmth and familiarity, DAILY IMMUNITY TEA and Tea Masala offer comforting rituals before the day begins.
Our Digestive Blend With Fiber fits naturally into a slower moment after a meal. It is a reminder to pause and pay attention to the rhythms of everyday life.
Then there is Kadak Chai, strong and unapologetic. Sometimes, all we need is five quiet minutes. We put the cup down, take a breath, and ask ourselves an honest question: what am I really focusing on right now?
Tea cannot remove every obstacle. Yet a mindful tea ritual can offer a moment of reflection before we return to our responsibilities.
I am not asking you to pretend that the branches are not there. Difficulties deserve to be acknowledged. Challenges sometimes require patience, practical decisions, and a change of direction.
Instead, I invite you to consider the question Arjuna’s teacher asked.
Of everything in front of you today, what is the one thing you are truly aiming for?
Identify it. Keep it in focus, much like a warm cup held between your hands on a cold morning. Allow the distractions to fade slightly into the background.
That is not denial. It is focus.
Building Asha Tea Company has taught me that meaningful progress rarely comes from having a perfectly clear path. It comes from continuing with purpose, even when the way forward feels uncertain.
Sometimes, the most important change begins with how we choose to see what is already in front of us.
With warmth,
Asha
