I used to think happiness was something you chased. A city, a career, a version of yourself that finally had it all figured out.
Then I left Los Angeles, came home to India, and built a tea company around a single word — Asha, hope. Through that journey, I learned the opposite.
Happiness isn’t something you chase. Instead, you brew it slowly through three quiet decisions you make every single day.
There’s a moment in every cup of tea when the leaves have given everything they have. The water takes their color, warmth, and aroma. Eventually, the leaves rest at the bottom of the pot, their work complete.
You don’t mourn them. Instead, you strain them out and drink what they became.
I think about that often.
The version of me that lived in LA chased a life that looked right on paper. However, I had to let that version go before the woman who built Asha Tea Company could rise to the surface.
Letting go isn’t loss; instead, it brings clarity.
The Bhagavad Gita calls this nishkama karma — action without clinging to the outcome. Moreover, this idea became part of the philosophy behind every blend we make, long before the cardamom or tulsi goes into the pot.
The Gita also calls this vairagya — detachment.
However, I used to misunderstand that word completely.
I thought detachment meant giving up everything you love: the people, places, and situations that shape you.
However, it doesn’t.
Instead, detachment means that nothing owns you.
It means you can hold a person, a place, or a plan with open hands instead of a closed fist. You can stay close enough to love them fully and, at the same time, loose enough that losing them doesn’t undo you.
That’s the difference between attachment and closeness.
Attachment grips. Closeness stays.
Therefore, you can be near everyone you love and still belong to no one but yourself. You can also remain free enough to let a season, a job, or a version of a relationship end without letting it take your peace with it.
This is the hardest one. In fact, I need reminding of it most.
Don’t focus on the plan for tomorrow’s launch.
Don’t focus on the ache from yesterday.
Instead, focus on this: the steam curling off the cup in your hand right now and the five quiet minutes before the world asks anything of you.
Our Calm & Sleep blend exists for exactly this reason: to give you permission to sit still.
You don’t need to fix anything.
Instead, simply notice that you’re here and breathing. For this moment, that’s already enough.
Faith isn’t certainty.
Instead, faith is trust without proof. It’s the same trust a tea leaf holds when it leaves a hillside, travels through drying and rolling, and finally reaches someone’s cup. Even months later, it can still bring comfort.
Therefore, happiness was never a destination.
Instead, it is a ritual: one cup, one breath, one small act of letting go, at a time.
That’s the whole philosophy behind Asha Tea Company. Moreover, that’s why “Hope of Happiness” isn’t just our tagline.
It’s our daily practice.
If this is where you are right now, somewhere between what’s gone and what’s coming, pour yourself a cup and simply be here.
Then, explore our Ayurvedic wellness teas at ashateacompany.com and let one small ritual carry you from letting go toward faith.
Because happiness was never meant to be chased.
Instead, you can steep it slowly, one moment at a time.
It was meant to be steeped.
